Last fall, our neighbors had three golden retrievers and one Czechoslovakian shepherd that formed a pack. The four dogs attacked our other neighbors two little dogs three times and our dog once. The vet bills for all three dogs were over 3,000-dollars. The neighbors with the four dogs paid the vet bills but it wasn't until the fourth attack that Animal Control intervened that they got rid of two of their dogs and promised to keep the other two put up.
The neighbor lady sent me a note that said, "You should be happy to know that our dogs are no longer free to roam."
I sent her a thank you note and said, "It's a comfort to know that your dogs will not be attacking our dogs anymore. Being free to roam and being free to kill are entirely two different things."
The neighbor lady who lost two of her pack resents that my other neighbor allows my little dog to go on their property and we allow their two little dogs on our property, but that none of us will allow her killer dogs on our property.
It's Spring ... All the dogs want to be outside more, but the little dogs stay where they are supposed to be.
On Saturday, the two big mean dogs got out and were on our property.
I called the neighbor lady and asked her to get the dogs off our property. She said she didn't have four dogs anymore but she would be happy to call the only ones she had.
I called the other neighbor to warn them that the big dogs were loose. We all put our dogs in our houses.
I called Animal Control.
Animal Control called the bad neighbors with the big dogs.
The neighbor with the big dogs lied (to avoid a fine) and said that our dogs had been on her property.
Animal Control really doesn't want to do anything. The truth is that they usually don't step in until a dog is killed or a child is attacked. The Animal Control Officer told me to put video cameras in the woods and film their dogs on my property for proof!
The dogs are just a small part of the overall picture.
We have lived on our quiet little hill for 17 years. The neighbors with the big dogs moved in three years ago. I remember the first time I ever met them. She introduced herself, "Hi, my name is Carol and I am a Christian ..." Wouldn't you think an introduction like that would mean we could expect good things from these new neighbors?
Our neighbors with the big dogs also own horses. She told me that we needed to cut our mountain laurel because mountain laurel would kill her horses. I asked why mountain laurel on our property posed a problem to horses on their property?
They also graded out and flattened some land to make it into pasture but now, the pasture land drains rain water and horse sewage unto our property and is killing our trees. We asked them to fix the drainage problem and they said the land was designed to drain unto our property ... but it never drained that way before ... so I guess it was by "their design".
I am ready to put our little dog down rather than have our poor old dog attacked and killed by their big mean dogs.
It has been a nightmare.
I am frustrated. I am angry. I am afraid for my dog and my grandchildren. I would rather move than risk something happening to my grandchildren. Joey says there are very few people that neither of us can talk to and it's a shame that one of them had to move in next door. I agree.
I write about healing ... and healing is present in so much of our lives ... but some times, trouble moves in next door ... and it forces us to rethink our position ...
Ideas anyone?
P.S. I do see the irony of the previous post being written before today's meeting with Animal Control ... It is not right that I should live in fear. How in the world do I show love to these people who have infringed, intruded and even attacked?
You say you see no hope, you say you see no reason We should dream that the world would ever change You're saying love is foolish to believe 'Cause there'll always be some crazy with an Army or a Knife To wake you from your day dream, put the fear back in your life ...
Look, if someone wrote a play just to glorify What's stronger than hate, would they not arrange the stage To look as if the hero came too late he's almost in defeat It's looking like the Evil side will win, so on the Edge of every seat, from the moment that the whole thing begins It is ...
Love who makes the mortar And it's love who stacked these stones And it's love who made the stage here Although it looks like we're alone In this scene set in shadows Like the night is here to stay There is evil cast around us But it's love that wrote the play ... For in this darkness love can show the way
So now the stage is set. Feel you own heart beating in your chest. This life's not over yet. So we get up on our feet and do our best. We play against the fear. We play against the reasons not to try We're playing for the tears burning in the happy angel's eyes For it's ...
Love who makes the mortar And it's love who stacked these stones And it's love who made the stage here Although it looks like we're alone In this scene set in shadows Like the night is here to stay There is evil cast around us But it's love that wrote the play ... For in this darkness love can show the way
This week, I went in search for Easter. The Easter story had a profound effect on many of our lives. It isn't just the story of the crucifixion that moves our hearts. The best part of the story is that evil didn't win! Jesus rose from the dead!
I can't find the music, but I found the words to a song we used to sing at Easter:
THE LITTLE BOY FROM THE CARPENTER SHOP (Words and Music by Dwayne Friend)
Born in a stable, His mother a virgin; Raised in a carpenter shop, His people were slaves; His parents were poor, His friends were a lowly lot; His chances in life are very slim, He's expected to be a slave; But people in darkness saw light in Him And hope in the freedom He gave.
(Chorus) Who is the King of Glory! The Lord God mighty in battle is He.
Who is the King of Glory? The Master of the host of Heaven Supreme. Who is the King of Glory? The one that not even death could stop,
Who is the King of Glory? The Little Boy from the carpenter shop.
The Little Boy from the carpenter shop.
All of the power of heaven and earth God has invested in Him. He's to die on the cross, descend into hell, Meet the devil, take the keys from him. He yielded Himself to the death of the cross, Cried, "It's finished!" and slumped to die; In the regions of hell, the devil celebrated, "We've destroyed the King," they cried.
(chorus)
In the midst of the celebration, Footsteps were heard walking the corridors of hell. Then the shouting stopped when a voice rang out; A voice that rang like a bell; Satan then trembled as he recognized Him Who came to deliver His own.
"Shut and lock the gates," he cried,
"Don't let Him ascend to His throne."
(chorus)
Then the gates swung shut in the face of the King To prove God's salvation untrue; But He shook hell's gates and cried, "Lift up your heads, the King is coming through!" Then out of the devil's prison house
Came a procession lead by the King, Shouting "Now, oh grave, where is thy victory And death, where is thy sting!"
"Laughter is the heart's best medicine." How many times have we heard this expressed! I recently read a quote by Mary H. Waldrip, who said: "A laugh is a smile that bursts!" How pleasant it is to be around someone who truly loves to laugh. It makes your heart sing, and your thoughts so much easier to handle. Against A Crooked Sky by summerrayne

It seems that Mr. Bunny is really feeling the pressure to be more politically correct, so he's implemented the following changes, effective Easter 2008:
The term "Easter" bunny is no longer acceptable as a reference to the figure. He should now be known as "The Non Denominational Mythical Creature of Easter".
While real eggs are not acceptable for use, plastic eggs are still allowed for "hunts"... although each MUST be equipped with a tracking device so that children may find them via satellite link GPS units instead of having to actually LOOK for them. Studies have found that children are too active and need their rest. Hunting eggs the traditional way is just too much stress on the little darlings.
"What are you doing in the refrigerator?" asked the lady of the house. The bunny replied, "This is a Westinghouse, right?" "Yes, it is," the lady replied. "Good, I am 'westing'" - said the bunny. A Jesus' Alien on Earth by Praywithhope
What if the armies of the Lord Picked up and dusted off their swords Vowed to set the captive free And not let satan have one more
What if the Church, for heaven's sake Finally stepped up to the plate Took a stand upon God's promise And stormed hell's rusty gates
What if His people prayed And those who bear His name Would humbly seek His faith, yeah And turn from their old ways
And what would happen if we prayed For those raised up to lead the way Then maybe kids in school could pray And unborn children see light of day
What if the life that we pursue Came from a hunger for the truth What if the family turned to Jesus Stopped asking Oprah what to do
What if His people prayed And those who bear His name Would humbly seek His face yeah And turn from their own way He said that He would hear His promise has been made He'll answer loud and clear, yeah If only we would pray
If My people call by My name If they'll humble themselves and pray If My people call by My name If they'll humble themselves and pray
What if His people prayed And those who bear His name Would humbly seek His face, yeah And turn from their old ways He said that He would hear His promise has been made He'll answer loud and clear yeaah If only we would pray

JELLY BEAN POEM Little jelly beans tell a story true. A tale of Father's love just for me and you. GREEN is for the waving palms. YELLOW is for the sun above. BROWN is for the soft earth where People sat hearing of HIS love. A SPECKLED bean for fish and sand. RED for precious wine and BLACK is for the sin He washed from you soul and mine. PURPLE'S for the sadness of HIS family and His friends, WHITE is for the glory of The Day HE rose again. Now that you've heard the story, you know what each color means. The story of our Father's love told by some jelly beans. So every morning take a bean They're really very yummy. Something for the soul, you see And something for the tummy. Some of your hurts you have cured, And the sharpest you still have survived, But what torments of grief you endured From the evil which never arrived. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson Raindrops Make Things Beautiful by Sherry'sCherries
If you don't have an Easter Egg Hunt but you'd like to, stop by ... Major Danes by Dalpha
I get the impression that many people believe that the event of Christ over 2,000 years ago was just another in a series of events in a history which would have proceeded anyway, a piece of a civilization that would have happened anyway, but no. Among the vast multitude of things which simply would not exist without Christ is the United States. Among the vast number of things that simply would not exist without Christ is... you.
