 Just Wondering ...

Have you ever wondered why you feel the way you do?  Have you questioned an idea you always thought was true?  Was your answer, "Well, that's the way it's always been ..." or "That's just the way it is."

Are you sure?

We collect information our whole lives about ourselves, us people (the people we know), those people (the people we don't know), and the world, in general.  Some of those ideas were just someone else's opinion and we adopted it as our own, but it was still just an opinion.  Some of our best ideas, we dreamed up, all by ourselves ... when we were 8 or 9 or 10 years old!

It's funny when you think of it.  Would any of us do anything a 8, 9 or 10 year old told us to do?

Of course not!

And yet, we "grown ups" operate everyday on the silly ideas we gathered when we were 8, 9 and 10 years old!!!  Those old beliefs and ideas influence the way we act, the way we talk and the way we think ...

But what if we got it wrong?

I wonder how many times I let that little child tell me what to do?  If I could do it, maybe other people do it too?

It certainly explains a lot.

 Your Words Have Power

Feeling Our Words
Words Have Weight

Words carry energy and this gives language its power and its potential to heal or hurt. Most of us can remember a time that someone sent a word our way, and it stuck with us. It may have been the first time we received a truly accurate compliment, or the time a friend or sibling called us a name, but either way it stuck. This experience reminds us that what we say has weight and power and that being conscious means being aware of how we use words.

The more conscious we become, the more we deepen our relationship to the words we use so that we speak from a place of actually feeling what we are saying. We begin to recognize that words are not abstract, disconnected entities used only to convey meaning; they are powerful transmitters of feeling. For the next few days, you might want to practice noticing how the words you say and hear affect your body and your emotional state. Notice how the different communication styles of the people in your life make you feel. Also, watch closely to see how your own words come out and what affect they have on the people around you.

You may notice that when we speak quickly, without thinking, or rush to get our ideas across, our words don't carry the same power as when we speak slowly and confidently, allowing those receiving our words time and space to take them in. When we carefully listen to others before we speak, our words have more integrity, and when we take time to center ourselves before speaking, we truly begin to harness the power of speech. Then our words can be intelligent messengers of healing and light, transmitting deep and positive feelings to those who receive them.

Your words have the power to curse or bless
yourself and the people around you.

You choose.

If what you want to change your world,
you have to change the way you communicate with it.

Your universe is quietly waiting
to see what you will do.

Will you change your world,
or has the world already changed you?

You choose.

Today, I Will Make A Difference

Today I Will Make a Difference
                                           by Max Lucado

Today I will make a difference. I will begin by controlling my thoughts.
A person is the product of his thoughts.
I want to be happy and hopeful.
Therefore, I will have thoughts that are happy and hopeful.
I refuse to be victimized by my circumstances.
I will not let petty inconveniences such as stoplights, long lines, and traffic jams be my masters. I will avoid negativism and gossip.
Optimism will be my companion, and victory will be my hallmark.
Today I will make a difference.

I will be grateful for the twenty-four hours that are before me.
Time is a precious commodity.
I refuse to allow what little time I have to be contaminated by self-pity, anxiety, or boredom.
I will face this day with the joy of a child and the courage of a giant.
I will drink each minute as though it is my last.
When tomorrow comes, today will be gone forever.
While it is here, I will use it for loving and giving.
Today I will make a difference.

I will not let past failures haunt me.
Even though my life is scarred with mistakes,
I refuse to rummage through my trash heap of failures.
I will admit them. I will correct them.
I will press on. Victoriously.
No failure is fatal. It’s OK to stumble…
I will get up. It’s OK to fail… I will rise again.
Today I will make a difference.

I will spend time with those I love.
My spouse, my children, my family, my friends ...
A man (woman) can own the world but be poor for the lack of love.
A man (woman) can own nothing and yet be wealthy in relationships.
Today I will spend at least five minutes
with the significant people in my world.
Five quality minutes of talking or hugging or thanking or listening.
Five undiluted minutes ...

Today ... I will make a difference.

(From
Shaped by God
)

There are so many things going on in my everyday,
chores and a to-do list that doesn't seem to end,
letters to write and cards to send,
phone calls to make ...
I have a couple of thing worrying me.
Nothing big and nothing that won't take care of itself.
There has been good news,
upcoming celebrations, funny things, happy moments,
goofy stories that you really would have to have been there ...
Life!
With it's ups and downs, twists and turns,
lessons and blessings,
I wouldn't trade a single minute, good or bad,
because every minute brought me to right here and right now!
Today!
... and today, one way or another, no matter what,
Lord willing and the creek down rise ...
I will make a difference!

(P.S.  You can make a difference too, if you want to)

 A Woman Should Have ...

MAYA ANGELOU'S
THOUGHTS ON BEING A WOMAN

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
one old love she can imagine going back to ...
and one who reminds her how far she has come ...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
enough money within her control to move out and rent a place of
her own even if she never wants to or needs to ...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
something perfect to wear if the employer or date of her dreams
wants to see her in an hour ...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
a youth she's content to leave behind ...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
a past juicy enough that she's looking forward to retelling
it in her old age ...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
a set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra ...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
one friend who always makes her laugh...
and one who lets her cry ...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
a good piece of furniture not previously owned
by anyone else in her family ...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems,
and a recipe for a meal
that will make her guests feel honored ...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
a feeling of control over her destiny ...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW ...
how to fall in love without losing herself ...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW ...
how to quit a job, break up with a lover,
and confront a friend without ruining the friendship ...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW ...
when to try harder ...
and WHEN TO WALK AWAY ...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW ...
that she can't change the length of her calves,
the width of her hips,
or the nature of her parents ...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW ...
that her childhood may not have been perfect ...
but its over ...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW ...
what she would and wouldn't do for love or more ...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW ...
how to live alone ...
even if she doesn't like it ...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW ...
whom she can trust,
whom she can't,
and why she shouldn't take it personally ...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW ...
where to go ...
be it to her best friend's kitchen table ...
or a charming inn in the woods ...
when her soul needs soothing ...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW ...
what she can and can't accomplish in a day ...
a month ... and a year ...
