OVERHEARD
and
SEEN
~  Mother's Day Edition  ~

FRONT PAGE

This is for the mothers who gave birth to babies they'll never see.
And the mothers who took those babies
and gave them homes ...

This is for the mothers whose priceless art collections
are hanging on their refrigerator doors.

This is for all the mothers who teach their sons
to cook and their daughters to throw a ball.

This is for every mother whose head turns automatically when a little voice
calls 'Mom?'
in a crowd,
even though they know their own offspring are at home
-- or even away at college
-- or have their own families.

This is for all the mothers who taught their children to be peaceful,
and now pray
they come home safely from a war.

The emotions of motherhood are universal
and so our thoughts are for
young mothers stumbling through diaper changes and sleep deprivation ...
And for mature mothers learning to let go.
For working mothers and stay-at-home mothers.
Single mothers and married mothers.
Mothers with money, mothers without.

This is for you all. For all of us...
Hang in there. In the end we can only do the best we can.

Home is what catches you when you fall
- and we all fall.

When I'm an old lady, I'll live with each kid,
And bring so much happiness...just as they did.
I want to pay back all the joy they've provided.
Returning each deed! Oh, they'll be so excited!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

I'll write on the wall with reds, whites and blues,
And I'll bounce on the furniture...wearing my shoe s.
I'll drink from the carton and then leave it out.
I'll stuff all the toilets and oh, how they'll shout!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

When they're on the phone and just out of reach,
I'll get into things like sugar and bleach.
Oh, they'll snap their fingers and then shake their head,
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

When they cook dinner and call me to eat,
I'll not eat my green beans or salad or meat,
I'll gag on my okra, spill milk on the table,
And when they get angry...I'll run...if I'm able!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

I'll sit close to the TV, through the channels I'll click,
I'll cross both eyes just to see if they stick.
I'll take off my socks and throw one away,
And play in the mud 'til the end of the day!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

And later in bed, I'll lay back and sigh,
I'll thank God in prayer and then close my eyes.
My kids will look down with a smile slowly creeping,
And say with a groan, "She's so sweet when she's sleeping!"

God Bless All Moms and Grandmas everywhere!

The Radiance of Your Loveliness
-- by Whit's Whittlings

The radiance of your loveliness
Is such that if I
Like a god of old
Could take a primeval sun
Rend it into a billion pieces
And fling them across the evening sky

Still your beauty would dim all the rest
Of the jewels in Night’s dark tresses
And I would know you and love you
Until the dawn hinted of your leaving
And another star, brighter still,
Ruled the day lit sky

IN THE NEWS

A lot of folks can't understand how we came to have an oil shortage
here in our country.
Well, there's a very simple answer.
Nobody bothered to check the oil.
We just didn't know we were getting low.
The reason for that is purely geographical.
Our OIL is located in :
ALASKA
California
Coastal Florida
Coastal Louisiana
Wyoming
Utah
Kansas
Oklahoma
Pennsylvania and Texas
Our dipsticks are located in DC

Is anyone driving today? I was just wondering.
I think my van is driving itself around because I go no where,
and yet my tank stays nearly empty ...
I have cut back on my insurance.
Then I got a new phone service.
Then I cut back to basic TV cable.
I have to have connection for work on-line, so I have cable for that.
I even quit my garbage service,
and am recycling plastics, cans, cardboard, and more.
But oh my garage is crying!!!
Lady, what are you doing to me?
Now I am thinking where can I cut on the grocery bill?
But I do like my coffee, and I do like my milk.
I guess I like to eat too much. Ha!
Now even my poor little birds outside are on "hold" waiting for bird seed.
I know we are all feeling this burden tremendously.

Quickery, Quackery, Doc
This morning the San Diego Union-Tribune
published an article about a local case of homicide.
What attracted my interest was not
so much the kidnapping, torture, and homicide
as the details about the woman who hired a man
to lure her ex-lover to Tijuana, Mexico
and murder him there.
The woman involved in this case called herself a homeopathic doctor.
She had developed a mail-order business called Astro Pulse
that marketed a device using radio waves
that were said to cure cancer.
Manufacturing the devices for $200 each
and selling them for $1500,
she advertised their sale in alternative health magazines.
Before long, she was clearing about $100,000 a month.

Here's a news story that you're going to love!
A woman in Ocala, Florida,
had a man arrested for trespassing
after coming home from work and finding him in her house.
That's the normal part.
Here is where it gets strange.
When Lisa Bess came home from work,
she found Tom Wilkerson sitting on the toilet in her bathroom.
In her clothes.
He even had her underwear on.
Thoughts from a drinking buddy by Big Al

War is wrong.
Hunger does not have to exist.
Love always wins out over hate.
Revenge will steal your soul.
No one should die alone.
We are all brothers and sisters, fashioned from the same dirt.
No religion is better than the next.
Violence is a spiritually weak response.
Justice was never meant to be bought.
A public servant should be just that.
We should treat the Earth like we would our mother.
In the end, it will not be fame or fortune that sustains you,
but family and friends.

POLITICS

Why are we wasting our time on
‘Bittergate’ and ‘God Damn America’ when
2008 gives us a limited window to blast
the most corrupt administration in our nation’s history?
Yeah, I want revenge
for how their insatiable greed has hurt my family ...
Why do I have to pay three-times more for health insurance
than I did in 2004 for one-third the coverage?
Why is food at my supermarket
now more expensive than eating out?
Why does filling up my gas tank cost more
than a family dinner at a four-star restaurant?

Touchy Subjects by Mokie Joe

As I write this it looks like Obama has soundly won in North Carolina
and Hillary has won by a good margin in Indiana.
Obama has kept up his run of winning southern states
with significant black populations
while Hillary is winning states with heavier blue collar demographics.
We don't know for sure how much
Rush Limbaugh's entreaties to his Dittoheads to cross party lines
to vote for Hillary
has affected the vote but some polls have shown
it has convinced some to do so.
Their incentive of course is to ensure Hillary's victory
so that all conservatives and Libertarians and some moderates
will come out of the woodwork and unite to vote against Hillary
in the general election and
enable John Boy to win the Big Salami.

And the workplace is the most popular place
to find the flowering of language.
Perhaps you've just received word that your office
has been transferred to
that area just outside the loading dock.
The good news:
You have a lot more space to work.
Your new office is roomier and much larger.
The bad news:
It’s out in the parking lot.

I spend a lot of time talking about the ‘good ol days.’
Yeah, Yeah, I know;
they (the good ol days) weren’t all that good,
after all what’s good about
wars, great music, draft resistance, drugs, booze, women, booze
and all that stuff.
Hmm ... five out of seven

He (husband) has been THERE.
Not just doing something nice here and there to get a favor in return.
He is THERE. And it feels good.
We have been having these lovely talks...
and LISTENING to each other.
It only took almost 19 years of marriage to get to this point.
But it is so GREAT! I hope it doesn't stop.
I truly hope we have started not just a new chapter...but a new book.

Oprah
AnExplorer weaves quite a tale.
It starts at Oprah's house ... who said ...
"No, I'm just being gracious and letting you down easy. This is as stupid an idea as I've heard in a long time." The Oprah's face turns to one of suspicion, "This isn't one of George Clooney's practical jokes, is it?"
Then ...
Somehow she had come into contact with a denizen of Blogstream and was torn between two impulses. She either wanted to offer all members of the 'stream free psychological services for having to tolerate this Anexplorer person or buy them all a free car ...
She called in Dr. Phil who said:
Dosage
Somehow, AnExplorer and Tall Pockets end up getting a spot on the Oprah Show ...
"Today," she is telling the audience,
"We will be traveling to a very strange place that I, for one, never knew existed.
It is not a geographical location, more a state of mind.
A very diverse and unusual community known as Blogstream.
Our first guest for the evening is the creator of that community, Pioneer."
The audience responds warmly.
Pioneer, looking even better looking in person than his photograph,
walks confidently forward, waving to the crowd.
He takes Oprah's hand and settles comfortably on the couch.
"Tell me Pioneer," Oprah begins, "Why do you never respond to e-mail any more..."
~  ~  ~  ~  ~
Forty minutes later the show is nearing its conclusion.
Seated with Pioneer are Taylor and Whispered Promises
wearing identical dresses,
Gloria is delivering letters of appreciation to the audience,
several staff members are chasing Dalpha's Major Danes around the studio,
the FBI are escorting Whit to a back room for interrogation
after he made the embarrassing mistake of being truthful on air,
LaLePop is demonstrating how to ride a bike
and paint at the same time,
Sherry is sharing cat photos with Oprah,
Celtic Mist is shearing a sheep,
Rubble is teaching dance moves to a member of the production staff,
Sinann is responding to a question from Dr. Phil,
Crone is casting a spell for the woman in the audience with warts,
Katie is answering a reporters questions back stage
on white nose disease in bats,
Hawk is standing in the balcony, white robes flowing,
his wand pointed threateningly at
HeatherScott trying to remove Bry's twenty year house hunting curse,
while Bohemian just seems to be looking for some place to hide.
"I have one final guest for this evening and then a special announcement to make ..."

Ice and I made a trip to Branson, Missouri
two weeks ago with them and had a wonderful time ...
We saw the Mickey Gilley show while we were there also,
and took a tour of the "Titanic" which wasn't there the last time
we were in Branson.
But the best part was spending time with my family and,
of course, my wonderful husband.

I was just looking at the doggie Orvis Catalog
and it has a special collar you can buy that when a dog barks
it automatically dispenses a spray of eucalyptus,
which distracts him from what he was barking at and so he stops.
And leaves a pleasant smell in it's wake,
not a bad deal.

As Ben Franklin said:
In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom,
in water there is bacteria.
In a number of carefully controlled trials,
scientists have demonstrated that if we drink 1 liter of water each day,
at the end of the year we would have absorbed
more than 1 kilo
of Escherichia coli, (E. coli) - bacteria found in feces.
In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop.
Remember: Water = Poop  and  Wine = Health
Therefore, it's better to drink wine and talk stupid,
than to drink water and be full of shit.

whereas I procrastinate.
As many of you know, or may not be aware yet,
his wife was hospitalized with a heart issue last night,
and he ask that we all continue to pray for them.
So, stop by over there and keep the positive energy
and prayers flowing here on the Stream,

It is a great honor to have such greater supporters and friends here,

Today is a beautiful day.
The sun is trying to peek out from behind the clouds.
A quiet calm has settled over my little part of the world.
The only sound is the ticking of the clock.
It reminds me that life is slipping away very quickly.
Slipping away so fast that sometimes it frightens me.
I think about my life and what I have done with it.
Have I made a difference in someone's life?

KELLY'S PHOTOS ROCK! Blog: Imagine It!

Kelly should be a regular Overheard Photographer (on "staff"!)

I'm a huge fan...I'm partial...what can I say!

Just a thought from Rubble!

Even though I'm not blogging anymore, it's nice to know I can still catch up with many of my old friends thanks to your links and Overheard. Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day.
