Tax Stimulus Check
I just went out and got the mail
and there was a letter from our good old government
(much sarcasm used when I say good)
It had to do with our Stimulus payment
and how much we could expect to receive.
Well go figure, everything they had been telling us
from the beginning
about the amounts we could expect
have somehow along the line changed and
we will be getting $600 less then what we expected.

The Price Of Gas ...

IT BELONGS TO PRINCE ALWALEED OF SAUDI ARABIA.
Remember this when
gasoline hits $5.00 a gallon.
You paid for this one.
Lou's World by Miss Lou

One day in October of 1973, I was upset
when I entered a service station to fill up the gas tank of my car.
Overnight, the price of gas increased
from 35 cents to 40 cents a gallon (rounded off).
This was a result of the oil crisis created
when the Arab states placed an embargo on oil
as punishment for U.S. support for Israel.
Little did I realize at that time that 35 years later,
I would be paying ten times that amount for a gallon of gas.

POLITICS

"Thanks for including the "Rolling Stone" graphic on your post.
However, it should be noted that this particular issue
came out in October, 2006.
This was one month BEFORE the election
that gave the Democrats control of the House and Senate.
It was a condemnation of a Congress
that was in REPUBLICAN hands.
I just don't want your readers thinking the magazine
was writing
about the leadership of Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid."

HEALTH

Breast cancer patients with low levels of vitamin D
were much more likely to die of the disease
or have it spread than patients getting enough of the nutrient,
a study found,
adding to evidence
the " sunshine vitamin " has anti-cancer benefits.
The results are sure to renew arguments
about whether a little more sunshine is a good thing.
The skin makes vitamin D from ultraviolet light.
Too much sunlight can raise the risk of skin cancer,
but small amounts,
15 minutes or so a few times a week without sunscreen,
might be beneficial,
many doctors believe.

Idle Thoughts by Granny

My garden is greening up beautifully!
I harvested my first spinach today,
actually, and we'll be eating some for dinner tonight!
How cool is that?
Who knew I'd be so excited over spinach!
I think everything is pretty much planted now,
although I'm still looking for some canteloupe seeds or seedlings.
No one has them around here,
they were all sold out by the time I had a good day
and got to the farm store.
No worries, though, I will have watermelon
(of course, I don't like watermelon...)
and plenty of other yummy goodies.
I do love canteloupe though,
and hope I can find some seeds to start.
I wonder if it's too late to order them online?

Our garden is doing great and tomato blooms are plenty.
I wish for everyone a wonderful Summer
full of precious memories,
long evenings under the shade trees or on the porch,
and friends and family around you!

Belle and The Police Officer
Just as we turn the corner, there is the police officer.
TROOPER JUNIOR: "Po'po.....Hey, look Me-Ma... Po'po."
"Po'po", is another little thing he might have picked up from Me-Ma.
The officer stops in his tracks, turns and smiles at Trooper Junior.
OFFICER: "Po'po....where did you hear that little man?"
TROOPER JUNIOR: "Me-Ma, say it."
OFFICER: "Really......"
ME-MA: "His daddy is a State Trooper and he calls him, Po'po, too."
OFFICER: "That explains it."
TROOPER JUNIOR: "Me-Ma, has big boobies."
OFFICER: 10-4.
I go in search of Princess.
ME-MA: "How about switching kids with me?"
PRINCESS: "Why?"
ME-MA: "Because yours can hardly talk."

I love to scavenge. If I drive by and see something abandoned
with a 'free' sign on it, I have to stop and check it out.
That's how I've decorated the house so far -
taking in old stuff and fixing it up new.
It's affordable and really healthy for the environment
to reuse as opposed to buying new.
Well, today, I hit the monkey box motherload

As an adult I think back to when I was a child
and then I bring myself back to the here and now.
I think that what disturbs me most
is how little is left to a child’s imagination,
If you can think about something,
you can either go online to find it, or just buy the video game.
How sad it is for me personally,
to witness what seems to be the slow death of childhood,
how sad indeed.

Whispered Promises by Whispered Promise

I can't remember being inside my house
except to sleep and eat because I was always outside playing.
We would play soccer with all of our friends in her back yard
or everyone would be in our yard jumping on our trampoline.
On other days,
we would find creative ways to make a buck or two
by selling lemonade
or collecting recycling to take downtown.
With our hard earned cash,
we would ride our bikes to the gas station about a mile away
and buy a soda or candy.
It's strange how times have changed
because
kids aren't even free to be in the front yard now,
yet back in the early nineties,
I was gone from sun up to sundown and
nothing ever threatened my safety.

Heart of Sunshine

The bright sun greets me as I walk out the door
The rain falls in rhythm, dancing on the side walk
Letting winged creatures splash in delight
What a day to wake to
What a great way to make it through
The summer day

Children whizzing by on their bikes and boards
Chasing down the ice cream truck
Their laughter flitting back to my heart
What a day to wake to
What a great way to make it through
The summer day

Fireman fairs set up and filtering families and friends
Bingo numbers being called out
Mothers smiling the first time all day
What a day to wake to
What a great way to make it through
The summer day

Wedding bells chiming out to all that love was found
Graves with bright bouquets
Earmarking the loved ones still missed
What a day to wake to
What a great way to make it through
The summer day

Dogs prancing on leashes seeking attention from all
Town people filling picnic baskets
Beach towels wrapped around the waist
What a day to wake to
What a great way to make it through
The summer day

Bedroom Windows open to welcome the night
Frogs calling out their greeting
While fire flies flicker and decorate the eve
What a day to wake to
What a great way to make it through
The summer day

Taylor,
I think, when I get my check from the government,

could be misinterpreted.
It's for the garden, damn it!
Ain't no sense in buying gas. I wanna get something

It IS a subsidy isn't it? You don't have to work
and you still get money? So many questions.
Yep! Where did our lives go? And, what is a logarithm?

Oh...if it was any better, just don't know what I would do!

It looks to get much better around 10:30 when I can take another pain pill....Other than that...It bites the big one!

Taylor,
Loved the Overheard as usual. Thank you for all the work you do to keep us informed of what's happening in other folk's blogs that we may have missed. Truly, a wonderful service.

BTW, The Inquirer should be up sometime tomorrow. Dalpha interviews Rubble.

Thanks for including the "Rolling Stone" graphic on your post.

However, it should be noted that this particular issue came out in October, 2006. This was one month BEFORE the election that gave the Democrats control of the House and Senate. It was a condemnation of a Congress that was in REPUBLICAN hands.

I just don't want your readers thinking the magazine was writing about the leadership of Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid. Fair enough?

I'm always so glad that you choose the positive parts of our blogging lives. Oh heavens what a number of red faced folks we'd have around here if you didn't. Unnnh, well, maybe only mine. Still, your Overheard is always positive, funny and uplifting. Nice job Ma'am.
